Tee hee!

Today was a bit of a let-down. My alarm failed, the crowd was tiny, and I was stuck in the kitchen all evening, which pissed me off greatly. I don't actively dislike being the kitchen bitch, but I'm a bar tender, not a short-order cook. I don't belong in a kitchen.
Ewan Gilmour was quite funny, but a lot of it was toilet humour, which gets a little samey after a while. But he did give me a beer, which was nice of him. It was also quite funny because I was leaving, and he accused me of walking out on him, "just like every other woman in his life". I followed on with "and every other man". He also then disowned me for going home to cook instead of playing salmonella roulette with the Sunday night fast food. But NOT playing salmonella roulette meant that I got steak with mushroom sauce, and raw vegetables, instead of...well, salmonella. I know which one I prefer.

This has been stuck in my head all today:

I love that he says "dog" "daaaaawg".

Speaking of things I love, Tamsyn and Vanessa and all of my Ladies, New Moon is coming out very soon, and I think there should be a movie night, with vast amounts of snarking.

My body's gotten a bit spoiled, I think. It's been a few weeks since I've had a massage and I ache terribly. I also want to curl up under my big fuzzy coat and drink chai and go moop. One of us might be feeling a little blue today. But it's ok, because the blazing scarlet will be back, and sometimes, blue is ok.

Hey everyone .. I have a question that is often posted here, but with a little variance. I'm sorry if this is redundant. I've been here a little while and haven't posted yet, but have read and commented, and I love this community! Very supportive, kind people here (all very beautiful too!). Anyway, here it goes.

So, I'm growing my hair out. It is very, very curly. Not tiny-ringlet size, but pretty close, with some bigger curls and smaller curls in the mix. The goal is BSL. Right now I'm a little past collar-bone, and I've been taking care of my hair in ways I never have before, all thanks to this community. I've switched to ACV rinse (no 'poo), honey, and olive oil. I will never touch a straightener or hair-dryer (... I hope) again. I plan on performing a very healthy body-art-quality henna experiment on my hair in the next week, mixing a little indigo in there to keep the color close to my natural.

So! That's the background, now here's my question: Every night, I try to braid my hair. I get a rat's nest in the morning. I don't like wearing my hair in a bun because the same thing happens over night! And wearing it down is just a nightmare. Maybe I should just resort to a nightcap. It's not even quite long enough for a truly effective braid.

What do you ladies (or gents) do with long, curly hair overnight?

Oh, and I plan on buying silk pillowcases sometime in the near future. This is my hope, that it'll make a difference.

I just thought I would share a couple of pictures. I love my long hair though it is a chore. I am half-black so it's VERY thick. I have no plans to cut it and my husband LOVES it. So here's a couple...

The poll indicates you lot think that next year's Hugo Short Form Drama nominations will be:Doctor WhoDollhouseLostTrue Blood and Fringe.  My own bet, now it becomes clear that The Prisoner will probably be eligible for Long Form, is: Doctor WhoDollhouseL0stFlash Forwardand Stargate Universe.  It was hard to choose between True Blood and Flash Forward.  Both deserve it, but the latter has Rob Sawyer speaking for it.  So let's see who's got it right when the nominations are revealed.  When I won't be able to find this post.  Cheerio!

Finally set up a Deviant Art account. Here I am:

Just a few of my art photos here, which are nothing compared to much of the fine work on the site from people with real cameras. But it's a start!

I know a lot of Wraeththu fan artists and readers have accounts, so let me know and I will friend/follow you, critique, etc., now that I can!

11:14 pm - Hair Stick Recommendation
Greetings,

I just ordered and have begun to use hair sticks fashioned by etsy craftsman screaminnorwegian. Specificially, my sticks are a 7 inch-long (3/8" wide) pair made of corian (yes - countertop material).

This pair is perfect for keeping a firm hold on my thick, coarse, curly shoulder length hair - in fact, I really only need 1 of the 2 at any given time. While I've seen wooden and metal sticks, I've not encountered too many made from countertop material!

In comparison, I've had little luck with sticks or forks found in most mainstream establishments. The metals ones inevitably bend (then break), and the (thin) wooden ones just snap in two. Jezzard's chignon pins worked quite well on my hair - however, a bit beyond what I can budget. At $18 + S/H, the corian pair are quite a nice purchase.

Has anyone else tried corian (silestone, marble) sticks? I'd love to compare notes.

09:46 pm - funky colored longhairs?
Hey all,
Anyone want to show off their long differently color hair? I'm about 2 inches from waist-length at the moment with pretty wavy hair. I was thinking about dying my hair pink or some other color but I feel like it would look silly and "interesting" colors look better on short hair.

Prove me wrong!
Pictures please?

~*~EDIT~*~
Thanks so much for the quick responses. Moment of weakness I guess, I've been growing my hair out from maybe an inch long (basically buzzed) to the current length for 3 years. Looking into henna or something similar to get a more red hue over my natural brown...

05:46 pm - Hair Progress
It seems like there are a LOT of picture posts lately.

Which is a good thing, right? Text-only advice is great, but I love to see pictures of everyone else's hair growth and especially pictures of all of you longhairs' hair. It inspires me to keep going!

So hopefully this is inspiring to somebody out there??

I think my hair has JUST BARELY reached BSL. It would have probably been there months ago if I haven't been so crazy with my trimming/dusting. D: I think I'm just going to stop. I've probably cut a good 2-3 inches off in the past couple of months. Eeep.

07:15 pm - Wide Tooth Comb
 So, I've dropped my wide-tooth plastic comb in the shower so many times that a bunch of the teeth have fallen off, and it's about time to get a new one.  When I bought that one I didn't know anything about long hair, I just heard in Allure that they were better.  Now I am a bit more informed, but have to ask the question;

What type of WTC is the best for detangling and gentlest for long hair?  Soft plastic?  Hard plastic?  Metal?  I think that wood is out of the question for me because I de-tangle in the shower and wood gets swollen.  My hair, as everyone knows by now, looks like this:  (I'm on the right)

And here is a bonus pic, of a "milk-maid" style hair braided with ribbons

04:32 pm - First Time Henna-ing
 Hi Everyone!

I don't think I've posted here before... Guess I've just been a lurker... I do have a question, however, as I'm going to henna my hair and you all seem so knowledgeable. I've been googling this to no avail.

My hair is light/medium brown, and I have some grown-out highlights from maybe 3 months ago. I've only colored my hair once. You can only see the roots and tell that it's dyed if I tie it up in a tight ponytail; when its down, it still blends together.

I just picked up 200 grams of pure henna (Mumtaz brand - mumtaz_superior_quality_henna_1s copy.jpg). I was going to mix it with indigo, then decided I might like to go red and just use henna. My question: I know that the highlighted hair will take the color more easily than the non-highlighted parts... but will it look ridiculous? (here's the natural color, if it makes a difference - don't have any pictures of it highlighted.. 5840_551981876861_13003495_32887100_6462316_n.jpg). Will there probably be an obvious line of new growth and old hair or should it blend well?

Thanks!
